Ruby throats have ridiculously bright red throats that are only visible when the light hits just right. These two photos are both of the same bird, just seconds apart.
I’m including this white winged dove because doesn’t it look like it’s a fake bird? I promise it’s real.

Birds and whatnot

We had a ton of hummingbirds passing through on their way north but now the numbers have settled down to what we saw all last summer.
I’m not saying this finch has an attitude but . . .
I know they are a nuisance but isn’t this a cute squirrel?
I think this cormorant is a young one. I’d never noticed their webbed feet but of course they are waterbirds.

It’s migration season. We’re seeing lots of visitors on their way north; I need to make a list! Today it’s monarch butterflies.
